OUR HISTORY

"The spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord has anointed me to bring GOOD NEWS to the afflicted; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.......To grant to those who mourn...a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of Praise instead of a faint spirit..." (Isaiah 61:1-3)

Good News Specialized Ministries, Inc.  has been serving our communities since 1982 with a dedicated staff and faculty committed to function as a healing community formed to manifest the stated mission of Jesus the Christ to "heal the brokenhearted...."(Luke 4:18).  This original vision of service based on the scripture above from Isaiah has been shared by Dr. Mary Johnson, D.Min.  with many others who have joined the mission of Good News, Inc. over the years. We are grateful to the sacrifice and dedication of so many wonderful Christians who have made this ministry possible. Today we are a diverse, non-profit, non-denominational Christian ministry with 3 different divisions including informative services in the areas of: Education, Counseling, and Worship. For details about the current activities of each division, please check out the specific web pages listed above. Through the active work of Holy Spirit we believe in the present reality of the power of the Good News of Christ to transform spirit and soul through education, counseling, and opportunities for creative Christian worship. While using the best of modern clinical psychology and medicine, we remain committed to a holistic approach to healing that addresses body, mind, spirit, and soul in a balanced approach honoring God and our developing selves.

We are located in the beautiful Monadnock region of southwestern New Hampshire and havebldg2.jpg (83543 bytes) also had an additional counseling extension site at the First Baptist Church in Claremont, New Hampshire. We have provided Clinical Christian Counseling to people from all over New England including those that have traveled from the Canadian border region. Over the past 20+  years we have counseled thousands of people in need with a broad variety of situational and emotional problems. We have been  able to provide meaningful and substantial clinical help to over 90% of those that have contacted  us. In gnsign.jpg (51373 bytes)addition, we have held weekly worship services and maintained  strong Educational Programs while training numerous Christian Counselors and Specialized Ministers. We have also been instrumental in founding and establishing "Great Beginnings", a day care center serving many children and their parents that is today independent of Good News..  In July of 2005 we ceased to provide direct services in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, but remain firmly committed to the original vision of Good News, Inc., while continuing today with a strong  educational outreach to our communities emphasizing Mental Health Education from a Christian perspective.
